Commencement Ceremony and Department Assignment for 53rd New Employees
Upon completing their Group Introductory Training and Business Introductory Training courses, Hyosung Group’s 205 53rd new employees were assigned to their respective departments in readiness to start working on site. In the introductory training, different education sessions were conducted on the corporate culture, history, and specific characteristics of the Group in order to instill them with a sense of belonging. The new recruits are expected to greatly contribute to the advancement of Hyosung Group in the near future.
Hyosung Holds 1st Insight Forum
Hyosung held the first Insight Forum on January 16 for its executives and team managers to provide them with the latest industry information and insights. A special lecture was delivered by Professor Lee Sang Yu of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, KAIST, on the latest trends and future forecasts for bio technology and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The forum, to be held bimonthly, will cover the latest trends and knowledge that leaders need to acquire in order to better understand their respective fields and insights applicable to their work.

Training on Centralized PC Management Solution
Prior to distribution of the centralized PC management solution across the Group, test and training sessions for team security representatives were carried out. Held on January 29 at the head office in Mapo, the training session aimed to identify issues with the new system and minimize any confusion and inconvenience that may arise once the solution has been fully applied. The sessions consisted of an overview of the centralized PC management solution, method of installation, and post-installation modifications, etc.
Hyosung TNC’s First Collaboration with Austrian Textile Firm “Lenzing”
Hyosung TNC presented fabrics and products made of Hyosung’s functional textiles at “ISPO 2019”, the world’s largest sports and outdoor exhibition held in Munich, Germany, for four days starting from February 3.
The textile firm participated in the fair, which attracts more than 2,800 exhibitors from around 120 countries, for the first time last year. In particular, Hyosung showcased fabrics jointly developed with Lenzing, an Austrian textile firm, during the event. In addition, the fabrics were selected as “Top 10 Products” for the ISPO Textrends Awards, attracting special attention.
Hyosung Heavy Industries Wins Green Car Award
Hyosung Heavy Industries won the Green Energy Award at the 9th Korea Green Car Awards Ceremony held on January 23. Hosted by the Asia Business Daily and supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Environment, the Korea Green Car Awards Ceremony serves as an opportunity to review the current state of the future-oriented eco-friendly auto industry and to look for solutions to move forward as a green car powerhouse.
With its expertise in automobile materials, Hyosung Heavy Industries has expanded its business into the hydrogen charging field as the era of hydrogen vehicles is drawing near, and has been recognized as one of the enterprises leading the distribution of eco-friendly automobiles.
Hyosung Heavy Industries Construction PU Performs Ritual Wishing for Success and Safety in 2019
The Construction PU performed a traditional ritual dedicated to success and safety in 2019 at Manisan Mountain, Ganghwado Island on January 4. CEO Kim Dong-woo and 142 employees of the Construction PU and Chinhung Corporate attended the ritual expressing their hope to achieve the management targets and ensure safety at their worksites. The employees also expressed their desire “to meet the contract targets and contribute to the growth of the company, and to create an accident-free working environment”.
Hyosung ITX Commercializes Customer Service Center Featuring AI Chatbot
Hyosung ITX, in cooperation with Skelter Labs, a leading player in the AI (artificial intelligence) field, signed an MOU for the construction of a platform-based intelligent contact center. In addition, Hyosung ITX initiated the commercialization of a chat bot-based customer service solution, and the integration of Extreme Solution, which has been independently developed by Hyosung as a contact center service support solution, and with the interactive AI engine of Skelter Labs. The intelligent contact center is designed to enable a quick response to customer inquiries around the clock. In particular, the chat bot learns the service database saved in the contact center by itself in order to identify the key points of the customer inquiries and provide a real-time response, which is expected to create a powerful synergy effect.
Hyosung Information Systems Opens Data Center Solution Demonstration Center
Hyosung Information Systems recently opened its new DX Center where visitors can experience state-of-the-art data center infrastructure solutions in one place. Visitors to the Center can also view and try out a data center environment comprising an SDDC (software-defined data center), object storage, and big data integration and analysis platform. “The center is designed to offer businesses a firsthand experience of the data center modernization and data innovation process”, said Chung Tae Soo, CEO of Hyosung Information Systems, adding, “It is expected that companies, based on that experience, will be able to transfer to the SDDC- and cloud-based environment more easily and maximize the value of their data.”
FMK Maserati Levante Upgrades to Super SUV
FMK’s luxury SUV, the Maserati Levante, has been updated to a super SUV with a V8 engine. The Levante GTS is equipped not only with a V8 engine but also the latest Q4 four-wheel drive system, IVC (Integrated Vehicle Control) and ESP (Electronic Stability Program). Maserati’s new super SUV aims for both practicality and performance next in line to sports cars. In addition, the upgraded twin turbo V8 engine is fitted with an intelligent Q4 four-wheel drive system, a first in the history of the brand!

Hyosung Takes Part in Community Service
Hyosung offered a donation of KRW 10 million to the “2019 Rice Cake Soup Sharing” event held at Ewha Girls High School gymnasium on January 30, and provided the less privileged with gift baskets filled with rice cake soup ingredients. Meanwhile, it also paid a visit to the Ahyeon-dong Community Center to present 200 vulnerable households in Mapo-gu with gift sets of canned tuna and ham on the occasion of Lunar New Year's Day.
Hyosung Grants Scholarships to Students in Alabama, US
Hyosung granted scholarships to five middle and high school students in Huntsville and Mason, Alabama, where the corporate’s US office is located. Hyosung USA, in collaboration with the local Korean community in the North Alabama area, selected students from less privileged backgrounds or children of firefighters and police officers, who make an important contribution to society, in an attempt to fulfill its role as a responsible member of the local community. The scholarship presentation event was attended by around 200 people including the director of the Korean community in the southeastern US, the representative of the Alabama Korean-American Association, and local officials and Korean-Americans living in North Alabama.
Hyosung Advanced Materials Offers Helping Hand
On January 31, Hyosung Advanced Materials offered a donation to the Young Nak Aenea Home, a nursing home for disabled children, for the purchase of basic necessities and inner seats for wheelchairs. Disabled children with different symptoms and levels of development need customized wheelchairs and regular seat replacements. Hyosung Advanced Materials has donated inner seat expenses to Young Nak Aenea since 2017. The first contact between the two entities was made when a group of corporate employees started to volunteer as meal assistants in 2012. Since then, they have continued to help local disabled children and provided necessities during the traditional festival and year-end seasons.
Changwon Plant Shares Festival Food with Disabled Families
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, the Changwon Plant conducted the “Festival of Food Sharing for Families with Disabled Members” event jointly with the Gyeongnam Disabled Comprehensive Welfare Center on January 24. The plant donated 10 million KRW to prepare food for the ancestral ritual and distributed it to less fortunate families in Changwon (20 households), Goseong (20 households), and Hadong (20 households). Launched in 2012, the program consists in sharing food with families with disabled members every Lunar New Year’s Day and Chuseok Day, with the accumulated donations amounting to 170 million KRW and the number of beneficiary families to around 900. The Changwon Plant runs the program in the hope that low-income families with a disabled member can celebrate the holiday properly with the gift.
Ulsan Plant Holds Management HQ Competition and Movie Day
On January 16, the Ulsan Plant held the Management HQ Task Division Team Competition to share TPM management innovation activities and select an outstanding division team. During the event, which marks its 17th anniversary this year, the four shortlisted teams presented their innovative activities, which were then subjected to an assessment.
Prior to the competition, employees of the Ulsan Plant enjoyed the “Movie Day” event along with their families who were also invited. The annual event celebrated its 3rd anniversary this year. “I felt more affectionate toward the company called Hyosung”, a family member, who attended the program for the first time said. “Next year, I will surely come with my mom and younger brother as well.”
Anyang Plant Cleans Anyangcheon Stream
On January 24, the Anyang Plant conducted an Anyangcheon Stream cleaning activity. Despite the freezing sub-zero temperature, some 20 employees from the Anyang Plant, Hyosung R&DB Labs, Power & Industrial System R&D Center and Hyosung HR Development Institute cleaned up the area stretching from the rear entrance of the factory to the surroundings of Myeonghakdaegyo Bridge. The Anyang Plant cleans the area around Anyangcheon Stream and Hogye Neighborhood Park every month.
